The American Ireland Fund is the United States branch of the Ireland Funds Worldwide, an international charity. The organization operates in 11 countries throughout the world. The Ireland Funds bring together people of Irish descent to fundraise for programs that support peace and reconciliation, arts and culture, education and community development throughout Ireland.
Susan O’Neill has successfully planned and produced the galas for The American Ireland Fund since the first gala in 1993. These annual Galas tap into the vast resources of Irish within the DC community.
Every year The American Ireland Fund recognizes a Washingtonian who has supported and advanced the Irish cause. Past honorees include President Bill Clinton, Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton, Prime Minister Bertie Ahern, Prime Minister Brian Cowen, Bono and the Honorable Tip O’Neill.
